Spreading Joy & Harmony
Hi, I've seen a series 3 88" thats in good nick, just need a bit of advice.

I've had a fair few series and defenders but they have all been the 2.5 diesel N/A. Can anyone tell me if i can expect the same sort of performance (loose term!!) from a 2.25 petrol.. I'm used to about 25-28 mpg and a steady 50mph rising to 65mph if i have my foot flat down!

Any other info on the 2.25 petrol will be great...can't see it being as strong as the 2.5 N/A

Cheers.

my series 3 gets about 18mpg on a good day. top speed about 65 downhill.....pulls fine until about 40mph

yep i would infact i'm thinking of fitting one to it. may as well have the power if the mpg is much the same !

18 mpg would seem a sensible figure, but you can pull it down easily if you have a heavy right foot. I have seen 20 on a long journey.
I would hope a 2.25 would pull 70 mph, although a lot don't.
I have brought one down the Autobahn for an hour or so at 130 KPH (80+ mph?) but I doubt it was doing 20mph!

Yeah 18MPG is what I get on decent runs. Anything where the engine is working harder - so sand, mud etc and it will coem down a fair bit. I have been at 70MPH in my 2.25 petrol but it feels a bit bonkers to be honest...55/60 seems much more sensible.

2.25 being a strong engine? You only have to look at how many are still going strong to make that judgement. Yeah they leak when the seals perish, but that is expected really, but from my experience the don't break.

If you are keen on speed or fuel economy I dunno what you're doing buying a series landy.

The question was how do the 2 engines compare...i'm aware that its not a ferrari or a vw lupo...I have had loads of 2.5n/a engines but never a petrol..from what i can gather I may as well buy a V8. Which is fine!! :)

would say you get about the same mpg but the petrol will be much more spritely and the low end torque is amazin on the 2.25 petrol ;)

ive had 75mph out of the 2.25 petrol, pulls fine, diesel will be slower, but about 18mpg was probly all i was getting
