Why doe's the oil light come on under heavy breaking on my series 2a 2.25 petrol

coz they are no baffles in yo sump and all the oil is thrown forwards. Might be worth checking oil level - or dont brake so heavily.

Be amazingly grateful you can brake that hard in a series! Tends to be the first sign of engine wear but you've got a lot more miles to go before it becomes a problem. Just keep an eye on the levels, though.

i use it as a low oil level indicator - when it does it its time for more oil

Yes, oil surge. your oil pump is running out of oil.
Check your levels.
Remember:
OIL IS CHEAPER THAN ENGINES.
