Hi everyone, Hi have stripped and rebuilt the cylinder head on my series 3 88'' 1983 diesel i was going to refit the head this weekend and a friend said i must replace the head bolts, there is nothing in the Haynes manual to confirm this I have found the 14 long bolts for sale but not the 4 short ones is it imperative to replace them all?

No need on these old engines. Your friend must think it is like most modern stuff with "stretch bolts" Make sure you remove the injectors and re torque the head after warm up. Replace the steel injector sealing washers. Repeat after 500/600 miles. If you dont it will blow across the push rod area.

id retorque when cool after test run but never bother 500 miles later ,and never come across any blowing soon after
