I know its not very good but i have just got hold of a L reg 2.0 mpi for a bit of a project , thinking of a series body on it .
When i got it the guy told me he had the engine running, it was a bit lumpy but ran. There was no battery on it and i was only given a key, no fobs etc, got a battery on it and the ign lights come on but it just clicks and nothing else, lots of clicks from the immobiliser down in the passenger footwell, The led just under the radio slot does not light up with the key in or removed from the ignition lock , as i dont know a lot about the discovery , any one got any ideas if i am missing something obvious ,
Thanks in advance Dev.

also does the central locking work ? as its all wired into that to, sounds like some one has messed with the wires in the drivers door lock area ....????

Thanks 1SPIN for your helpfull suggestion , the central locking dont work and there is no volts going down the small wire to the starter solenoid when the key is turned.
As for the rest of the observations guys yes i know its crap in a discovery but its going to be pushing along a series and is a better option than the original 2 1/4 engine and box , imho.

Checked that one out but its the newer one , i have the model before that, none spider, thanks.
Progress so far is , bypassed the positive feed to the starter solenoid and we have a fired up engine:).
The bad news is that it ticks over at almost full throttle throwing loads of white ish smoke out the back, so now another problem to try and figure out  , any ideas guys ??
Thanks Dev

Aaarrrrgghhhhh the white smoke is not good... common for petrol engines:

Coolant and/or water vaporized in combustion = Head gasket leaking/Cracked block or cylinder head

AARRGGHHHH indeed , i suspect a head gasket, lets face it , its not uncommon in this engine, even if its the block its easy enough to get a rover 2.0 engine and its still got to be better than than the series 2 1/4 thats in the lightweigh at the moment, i intend to cut the disco chassis to suit the 88 inch lightweight body and then transplant the lightweight body onto the coil sprung chassis and go from there.
Thanks Dev.
