New here, hopefully i have posted this in the right place. I have combined the posts from other forums for yous to have a look. Any ideas welcome Sorry for the amount of photos!
Always wanted a landrover so bought a 2 door discovery 1, 2.0 mpi with 88k. Exterior bodywork is really clean for the age and chassis is 100%. Needed tlc which was exactly what I was after, something to work at.
So far it has a Bearmach Tuffback 2" lift kit which includes heavy duty gas shocks, wheel arches have been cut out and fitted with rivet on +50mm arches and bucket seats fitted in the front. I also got black anodized chequered plating for along the bottoms of the doors and wings but I probably wont be fitting it.
First I got it home and into the garage and began cutting out the rot in the sills leaving it ready to weld the new ones in. I ordered replacements on Wednesday so should have them this week.
Gathering up parts as i go along. I will be painting and schutzing the whole underside of it to keep it right.
One of the rear door hinge pins had sheared so took the door off and removed the hinge to get it sorted. while it was off I sanded the bottom couple of inches of the door down as it was corroding and painted it satin black. Im going to make a bracket to replace the spare wheel carrier to mount a 4ft high lift jack while its off. Oh and a sticker lol
The rear bumper was removed for patching the rear crossmember and decided to start adding some towing goodies so bought these:
I couldnt find anything suitable to mount them with so after a few runs with the mig, a few inches of tube, 2 bolts and some tins of paint I made these:
Next I decided to make a front bumper. Il be buying a winch once I find one at the right money so decided to make the bumper strong enough to work with it and wipe out everything in its path
Got some 5mm plate rolled into 6x3 channel to start with. Im going to taper the ends and bend them in slightly to follow the lines of the front end better. Then il cut out the centre and weld in a tray to hold the winch. After that its just a matter of fitting my tow strap and a couple of spotlights.
Then i went about servicing the thing. First of all the bleeder screw on the caliper was knackered so got hold of 2 more front calipers. Went to take them off one of the bolts on the drivers side was rung. By the time it was out the caliper was scrap. Next the brake lines were corroded to the pipe nuts to they broke off. They were pitted anyway so I made new pipes.
Plans include bigger tyres and new rims. Will more than likely be going for a 33"x12.50"x15" tyre on a 15x10 rim. Make a steering guard, make a light bar, some form of loud exhaust and as many other things as i can bolt to it lol.
Plenty more things in the post. Cant wait to get it finished and get it dirty!!!
Got more done tonight,
Started by making brackets to hold the rear bumper. No idea what way they are held on originally and wasnt going to arse about trying to find out. I welded nuts on the inside to make it a lot handier to bolt on. Also finished welding the rear cross-member and gave the hole thing a lick of primer.
Painted the tow bar etc while I was at it. Just have to fit that shackle thing I made up and get something like chequered plate or heavy rubber to cover the gap between the boot and bumper.
Few pics:
Bit more done last night,
Finished the rear bumper first of all
Pulled off the front wing to get a bit more rot cut out
Then made a template which will basically just be a full replacement inner wing
Sills and schutz gun also came
Tonight I plan to get all the templates cut out and everything ready for welding.
More done the last couple of days, first of ll i cut out the template and folded it
then cut out all the rotten bits
started welding it in
and after alot of work and a lick of primer
then tried out the schutz gun, its a great job and now the front end looks like new
repaired the rear body mount
then got the sills clamped into place to see what i had to add to them but ran out of gas for the welder
and a random shot
so have to get more gas on monday and get more welding done
