Hi all... hope someone here can help me!
I have a '96 D1 with the 3.9 V8 Efi engine. Since I bought it (about eight weeks) it has had an intermittent power loss/cutting out problem. The problem is best described as a short but total loss of power, lasting a second or so, sometimes repeated so there's a 'kangaroo' effect. This might happen twice in a day, or not for a week. Significantly the engine never cuts completely - I have never had to re start the engine. The revs drop to idle and then just as suddenly the problem is gone and progress continues normally.
Things changed so far:
New lead set, including the king lead
Immobiliser spider (wired out of circuit using the official LR part)
New ignition coil (old one had insulation breakdown round the neck)
I have a new distributor cap and rotor arm to fit, but not done them yet.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the culprit, even better - has anyone cured a similar problem??
Oh, one last bit of info - a very knowledgable LR specialist that I know has suggested that the mechanical advance weights in the disty might have been damaged by someone trying to lever a stuck rotor arm off. I will probably pull the disty for him to look at over the weekend.
Hope someone can help - this is driving me mad!
Thanks in advance..
