Hi all, small issue that got me all confused last time a changed a steering wheel... I need to change the wheel on my 96 300 tdi 90 but am waiting for a puller i ordered before i whip it off. does anyone know how many splines it will have so i can cruise ebay now for a replacement? trying to find the answer on line i got all confused and local garge said it could be 2 different numbers of splines??? help please...anyone... Cheerss p.s. on a smug note my 71 series 3 went thru the mot with NO ADVISORIES after 2 years off the road this week !!!! smug smug smug i was when i collected my free tax disc......... Ha Ha Mr Brown take that !!!!

What do you need a puller for? Undo the center nut. Put it back on a couple of turns and then yank it repeatedly while smacking it with your knees. It WILL come off. You just need to get a bit mad with it.:rolleyes:
 
ratty's advise is good. I took the nut off, went mad and smashed myself in the face :D

you can count the splines if you just remove the centre cap and nut, your garage is right, 96 300tdi there was a split. either less (courser) or more (finer) splines. mine is a 96 and was 48 spline i think from memory. dont quote me on that!
