There is a 1994 Geo Tracker with 95,000 miles for sale around the corner
from where i live in Northern Virginia. I need a car, so i took a look at
it, drove it, and it drove very well. It was also very clean, and didnt
seem to have any problems. BUT then the guy who is selling it told me that
whenever i start up the car, i gotta let it warm up for 10
minutes...otherwise the car wont shift gears properly. But after u let it
warm up for 10 minutes, the car drives just fine. Now some people have
said this could mean the transmission is going bad, but the guy told me
that if the transmission was bad, the car wouldnt even shift gears PERIOD.
But after u let it warm up for 10 minutes, it drives fine. Do any of u know
what kind of problem this could be??

It most likely needs a new transmission. Probably has internal
valves sticking that free-up with thermal expansion. The problem
will only get worse. They're great little trucks, but you're
looking at more than $1500 to make it function reliably. So,
unless the deal is really great...

My 2-cents worth.

The transmission is going bad. The car may still be worth buying.
Don't even think about buying a car from a private party without
having a mechanical inspection. If the owner refuses, now you know
the car is not worth buying.
