Hi all

Is there any other access holes on the bulkhead of a 1992 Defender for Dinitrol/waxoyl to be squirted through besides the door hinge bolt holes

All best
Shaun

Use the holes near the wipers - pop the rubber bungs out and spray to your hearts content. However be aware that screw holes and fixing will allow your oil through - this took me by surprise when I took the dash out, but at least it's protected!

cheers mate but there are no bungs near the wipers on mine. only holes are the two wiper shaft holes. There are two holes under the bonnet on the bulkhead that are oval shaped and have wires going through them???

Those rubber ovals go straight through behind the dash tray - could be messy if you sprayed through there!

I used hinge access and the rubber grommets by the wipers, but if yours is without those, think that's about it - would try feeding a long tube through the hinge access to get as far in as you can, and if you have it spray using a compressor rather than hand pump

cheers matey. Access via hinge bolts is limited. Im guessing it must be a box section there as my cans probe only goes in a couple of inches before it hits solid wall. I donbt understand why the bulkhead should be so prone to rotting. the footwells i understand but why where the air vents are?

Rot they do!

You should be able to feed in a plastic tube from the top hinge by feeding it in at about a 45 degree angle

Get it in as far as you can, and then spray the cr*p out if it:D

Had another look and saw the two bungs by the wipers. I have pumped 2 cans of Dinitrol cavity wax in there using the long probe. Im guessing thats the bulkhead pretty much sorted now (on the inside) ???

If you've done through the top hinge as well on both sides, then you've done all you can

Out of interest, how much found its way into the cabin - when I did it last year, the answer was loads:eek:

Yeah mate. I took top hinge bolt out of both doors and pushed the 60cm probe in. it sprays 360 degree so i should have got good coverage. it must be a box section there. Sprayed loads in and all i got there was a few drips out the bottom of the bulkhead by the bottom front corner of the door. The bung holes by the wipers I used the same probe and got from the bung right along to the door hinge. Sprayed two cans (one in either bung) So far nothing has dripped out of there, inside or out :clap2:
. I used the Dinitrol ML which is like water so it should get into every nook and cranny

Well got it more or less all finished today. Im impressed with the Dinitrol compared to my past experience of Waxoyl. Dinitrol goes on much easier and dries much nicer.

Great job

Not used it myself, but switched from waxoyl to ankor wax a while back as is too hard to spray unless warmed and diluted with white spirit

Must say the Dinitrol does dry well from your piccys

Is this where you put the Dinitrol?? Also any chance it helps cure footwell leaks??

Hi mate

Yes thats the holes. I got Dinitrol with a 30cm probe which sprays out the stuff in a 360 degree fan. I took the top door hinge bolt and and the bottom door hinge bolt and squirted a load in there (this seems to be a box section) then popped the probe in the holes by the wipers. The probe went right along to the door pillar. I sprayed loads in. After a few days i noticed some Dinitrol running down the bottom middle of the bulkhead through a seam. Only a small amount. make sure you use Dinitrol MIL cavity wax as its nice and thin and gets in all the nooks and crannys :clap2:

That stuffs ok but its a bit thicker. I used this below and got it via the link. 4 cans for £34 and it arrived next day for free

4 x DINITROL ML PENETRATOR RUST PROOFING CAVITY WAX 500ml AEROSOL + EXTENSION | eBay

I also used this on the chassis and then over sprayed (wet on wet) with Dinitrol Black underbody wax. All the years i have used Waxoyl I have to say Dinitrol is so much easier to apply

Meant to say...thats top screw of top hinge and bottom screw of bottom hinge. not both screws out of each hinge

Brilliant! Really helpful of you!! Thanks. I will let you know how I get on! My defender hadn't seen the rain for 17 years due to a prudish former owner, so not it gets wet and muddy I think it could do with a bit of protection!

No probs. if I can do it anyone can :D. I pumped nearly 2 cans in via the wiper holes lol. Just push probe in as far as it will go then withdraw it slowly while spraying. Im paranoid about the bulkhead as you can tell

Thank you for posting this, I have a 1998 300tdi Defender and have been trying to work out the best wax to spray inside the chassis and bulkhead, I did use waxoyl on it about 5 years ago and found it very very messy to apply. After reading this and a few other posts I have just ordered some Dinitrol ML and 4941, hopefully it will go on a bit better than the waxoyl. I hope the weather dries up a bit soon then I can get under it with the steam cleaner.

Kev
