i need to change the auto box in my 1989 range rover classic

can someone tell me the easiest way of removing please?

is it done from inside the car like a defender?

make sure you get the pump drive seated correctly before you tighten the bell housing bolts

indeed, and make sure it dont slip off/move when you get it all together hence my orginal point

TB is the heavy bit, box is ok for one man if your strong like me!

split them and its easy out. you must align the TC when going back in, hence th ease with the TB off.

Sorry for the TB, TC abbrevs :D

Just to clarify T1G UP's vernacular....

TB = Transfer Box
TC = Torque Convertor

if you have access to engine crane its easiest to leave the transferbox and gearbox together and lift through tunnel hole ,if you dont have engine crane splitting the two boxes would be safer

Again to clarify....jamesmartin's solution will require the gearbox and transfer box to be lifted through the vehicle interior.
