Hi All,

I'm wanting to purchase the above LHD in Italy. Can you tell if this is the original engine? It has to be original, otherwise I don't want it.

2.5td. sounds correct but I'm unsure when they changed from NA to TD.
It's not piped up correctly though ie original. Lots of make do and mend stuff .

The 200tdi wasn't fitted into Defenders until 1990 so it could be the earlier turbo engine. If so that is a 19J engine code which would make it one of the last of that type.

Its the right engine for the year but I suspect by the state of that engine bay its not necessarily the one that was in that Land Rover

I think the engine bay may look different because it is LHD. My 1990 year ninety is one of the last TD's made. [ now tdi ] TD's first in 1986.

@PeteHM3 , as others above, this is the correct engine type for the '89 D90...but engine/engine bay's a bit scrappy & uncared for. So inspect the Defender very carefully, especially the chassis, all mechanicals/driveline/suspension and as far as possible, the wiring.

I would check the vin number against a vin decoder to make sure it is the engine it left the factory with

If it's anything like a Portugese mechanic serviced vehicle...chassis will be solid...everything else worn and bodged...just last week tried to remove battery tray from a S2 to clean and paint 3 bolts holding it on but last missing so they welded it to upright and its the one nearest the engine so no room...all split pins on the steering components were bent nails hammered in till head was flush and broke when bent straight...
