hey everyone, i have this 1988 Ford F150, 4.9L I6 300 4x4, and im not
quiet sure what kind of transmission and transfercase it has, what im
planning on doing is dropping in a ford V8 5.8 litre 351 and was
wondering if i could get a mounting kit or something for my trans and
transfercase to attatch to it, or will it fit already, or am i gonna
have to buy a whole new transfercase and transmission?

would anyone be able to tell me what this make, model and year of
truck with this size engine, what kind of transmission and transfer
case it has?

thanks

the engine will bolt the transmission just do some checking. you will
probably have to get a flexplate/flywheel for the 5.8(351W). Is it an
auto tranny or is it a manual??

If its a manual it could be any one of 3 different ones. If its a heavy
gvw f150 it will have a ZF 5 speed. This is a granny 4spd with OD
basically. If its a regular standard gvw F150 it will have a Mazda
M5OD-R1 5 speed. If its a 4 speed it will be a borg warner T-18.

You can tell by looking at the tranny case and going to
www.novak-adapt.com and looking through their technical section. they
got some nice photo's and info on all major 4x4 transmissions for the
major brands.

If its an Auto it will more then likely be an AOD. (automatic overdrive)
non electronic. I Dont think in 88 they still had the C6 but its a
possibility.

The transfer case will more then likely be an New Process 208 (NP208)
chain driven t-case. these are the most common found in the full size
trucks. If its not that (can verify on novak website by the pics) It
will be a Borg Warner unit. im not sure of the number i think its BW1345
but dont quote me on that. i always get the numbers mixed up with the
ranger t-cases

Either way the trans will bolt up. the only thing you will need are the
frame stands and engine mounts from a v8 truck. all ford f150 v8 trucks
have the same motor mounts wether its a 302 or 351W from 80-96

Hope that helps.

ok, i do have the 5 speed manual transmission, 5 speeds and reverse

im pretty sure that the first gear is not a granny gear, also i wanted
to point out that it will be a 351 windsor, and i didnt know if that
made any difference...

any other information would be greatly appreciated.

nope...351W will be the same. the only difference in the 351W from a 302
is the deck height of the block. bellhousing and motor mounts are the
same. more then likely you have the M5OD-R1 Mazda transmission. some say
its weak, but ive seen them handle some pretty heavy driving. i think
the most time they grenade is when doing a lot of constent heavy towing.
if the case arrises you want something more stout you can use either a
T18 or an NP435 from an 80-86 truck. they are a granny gear 4spd and
will handle anything you can put to them and they are pretty much bolt in.
