I'm 24 and just previously (about 6 months ago) I never dreamed I'd be able to fix a Lawnmower never mind replace/fix a bodged (so-called restored) series 2a gearbox and engine. But, however, I have indeed endeavoured to resolve my Land Rovers F+£k ups or shortcomings for those of a fragile disposition ha, ha!
At the moment I'm in the serious position of finding a new crankshaft for my 2.25 diesel engine. I'm also on the series 2 club putting out the message "if anybody has a spare diesel engine for parts if they still have the crankshaft available for sale?". I realise that such an occurrence is quite rare unless the crank has had some serious torque applied to it which isn't the case so long as I've had it but it is 11th hand so who knows what work it's undertaken in her life. My guess is one of the tappets I pulled out has broken which has lead to the pistons fighting each other and creating a strain on the crankshaft over the time I've had her (so i think it's my fault for lack of vigilance when hearing a slight cough and splutter now and again).
I've stripped the engine to find most of the faults, the biggest of which has been the crankshaft which would explain why the starter had a field day turning her over. I don't have many pictures on my mac because Mac and Samsung have had another tiff probably, but I do have some pictures fro another camera.
