From what you have said so far, your engine is a 2.25/2.5 petrol/diesel that may or may not have been rebuilt ex-Mod!

Do the receipts match the car?

Please give us some pictorial clues to work from!

hi old sea dog all i can see on lucas cav pump dps om plate bottom back of sump has HRC 1764
ON SIDE OF BLOCK hrc1816 big letters BO small letter nw

all i can say is ihave 20+ years receipts some have dates some dont but all for this car
even bill of sale from 1993 hallamshire landrover services one for 1000. and 2nd one for 3700.

As a general rule of thumb, the Lucas CAV pumps are slightly different ...
DPS(2.5) has a solenoid for the run/stop.
DPA(2.25) has a pull cable for the run/stop.

Whish one does yours have?

Am I right in thinking that the 2.25 CAV pump is mounted almost vertically on the offside of the engine and the 2.5 CAV pump is mounted horizontally taking it's drive from the timing gears at the front?

yep it is a early 2.5 as i taken it for a repair on the cav pump
it jumped from 100. to 450. lol
so looking for a cheaper way than 450. any clues
