I have just worked out from reading this forum that the weird alloy bits on my hubs are spacers... I have what looks mostly stock 110 300 tdi CSW from ‘96; would the Tornado alloys have been standard (they seem an option in brochure but read somewhere else they were 90 only??!) and do I need spacers for 265/75/16 which is an option offered to me as stock by all the tyre config sites when entering my number plate? it it likely the steering stops have been played with by someone looking foe better steering lock - or should I just quietly remove them and see? Anyone can confirm if standard alloys would have been tornados? they certainly look as old as car lol
 
Unfortunately I cannot help with which alloys were available from the factor but you should not need spaced for that size of tyre, however by fitting them and adjusting the steering stops you could achieve a better steering lock. As they just unbolt in the same fashion as a wheel it would be easy enough to remove them and refit the front wheels. You can then check steering lock to lock to see if the wheel catches on an of the suspension (usually the radius arm) or body work. If it does you will need to adjust the steering stop until it no longer catches.
 
If you can find an offset number on the alloys, most standard alloys are ET30 so they should fit fine without spacers as long as the lock stops are standard. I have just taken the spacers off my 110and put it back to standard, the ride is smoother and the steering lighter. I only had spacers to clear the old big chunky tyres, and don’t need them now I’m using road tyres.

Just realised you said 265 tyres, yes that may make a difference, that’s why I needed spacers on mine.

From what I have seen, the tornado / freestyle wheels have a 30mm offset... I would have assumed I needed the spacers where it not for the fact that 265 comes up as a standard option on tyre websites???
