Hi, Ive noticed that some hicaps have the standard defender GVM of 3000kg, and some have 3500kg.
Other than the V5, is there any way to tell them apart? If I bought a 3000kg one and then needed a higher payload, can I do some changes and get the payload increased by the DVLA?

On a less relevant note, does anyone know the length of a defender single cab body? Ideally the horizontal distance between the back of the cab and the center of the front wheel? Id like to know if any of the popular discovery pickup cab conversion kits will fit infront of the hicap tub on a 110 chassis.

Thanks!

The disco body won’t fit wrong out riggers. For the higher payload they need re inspecting.

Look on vin tags normally state the carry weight.

So are the chassis themselves identical? I read somewhere that theyre either built differently (normal defender being the same as a discovery, 2 C-shaped bits welded toghether) and the 3500kg versions either being 4 faces welded at the edges (Like a series) or being a normal chassis with 2 additional strengthening bits welded on (either top and bottom or either side, cant remember). Are any of those true?
And are there any other differences? (Axles, springs, brakes etc?)
The re-inspection process, is that an IVA, or is it something else?
Thanks!

Remind me the weekend when I’m home. Will look at the chassis.
Axles springs etc are all standard 110

Only ever down plated a lorry and this was done by vosa/dvla centre
