Having owned a Series 3 years ago, I am toying with buying a 110 as our second car (our main car is a '95 merc estate). My wife is happy with the idea (phew) but we are both concerned with the possible fuel consumption.

I have a friend who is a physics teacher and who has tinkered with cars all his life. He reckons that he gets 35-38 out of his 110 300TDi (based on motorway journeys). Can this be true? I can't believe it, but then I would expect him to know what he is talking about.

Any feedback appreciated.

Wouldent have thought so. My dads 110 TD5 (which is also a 2.5L Diesel) works out at an average of 24mph, with a fair amount of motorway use.

Well just to add my bit td5s are crap on fuel anyway no more than 34 anyway you drive them but that will be slow,no where as good as a 300tdi i can get between 38 out off mine on the motorway but thats about the best if i stay about 75 ish, tiga.
