I have xzl on the 101 currently. They've perished long before they have worn out.

I currently have a set of 4 ok ones and a ropey spare, so I'm not rushing, but, looking to the future -

I have a set of 5 15" six stud rims. 35" x 12.5" x r15 would be the tyre size id fit.

There's a good supply in this size from Nankang at as little as £130 or so a corner (remember the xzl perished before I wore them out) to about £250 a corner for something like coppers.

So that's one option. I have the 15" rims currently. Paid for etc.

Another possibility would be to get the existing rims banded. About £40 a rim, or £200 for the set.

Then 315/75 r16 would seem like a suitable size. Possibly there's a little less availability in this size than the 15" but, again, there's a range from cheap to expensive.

The above link, if it works, shows that both tyres are about the same size. Very slightly smaller diameter than the 255/100 r16 xzl that I have on there currently.

So I have a couple of options, both of which seem, pretty much, the same.

Would you have any preference?

Maybe have a look at a few smaller trucks and see what sizes they are running, then sort wheels to suit?

Most "35 inch" tyres are less than 35". Not sure where your figures are from. But as an example...

This is pretty standard, as 31.10.50 would be 30.5" tall, a 33.12.50 would be 32.5" tall.

What is your intended use and do you use the step on the factory wheel rim to get in/out?

Then it has to be what rims you like the look of more.

A 101 should be capable of running a 37" tyre without problem.

Nankang offer a 37.12.50 for £166/corner: https://www.camskill.co.uk/m53b0s13...ff_:_XC_Wet_Grip:_XC_NoiseClass:_XC_Noise:_XC

Wider tyres likely to stick out of the arches though.

I can't remember what size these are, I think they are 37's on some custom 6 stud Mach 5 rims.

The table i inserted was a clickable link to the comparison site.

Usage -

Not a great deal at all at present. Ive owned it 20+ years, and it was set up as a camper - but then we had a kid, and its been mostly been stationary since.

Id like to re-do the camper bit of it this year, and the current tyres are perished.

Realistically, for the foreseeable future, it will be tarmac or grass fields only, nothing adventurous.

Back in the day there was a bit of a "craze" of people fitting unimog wheels. I cant remember the details, but plenty of naysayers on forums warning of broken half shafts and the like, however, i never actually heard of anyone running into trouble. Maybe they just kept quiet when they did, i dont know?

Ok, didn't know it was clickable. Not sure where it gets the size from, but I've been on lots of American forums and it is a common theme that 35's are less than 35". I'd suggest they would be the same height as the other tyre you are looking at, which would concur with the BFG site.

As for which ones... has to be down to you really based on looks, price and tread pattern.

But they will be "fat" tyres and I guess likely to stick out of the arches, as per above. But sadly a real shortage of tall narrow tyres.

And of course if you use the step....

If you only plan on road or mild off road use, then a modern AT or mild MT would likely be a much better tyre to run.

I had bar grips years ago - they were so grim on the road.

I've had a bit of a look for 37" R15 and there's the Nankang that you mention, which are nice and cheap, and some Maxis, but not much else.

...and both are full on mud terrain.

If I go down to 35" R15 the range increases - I mean I can get the same copper as I have on the 110 for 220 a corner or something.

Id like the 37" as I'd get preferable gearing, but, other than the Maxis and Nankang I'm not finding anything.

I also can't find anything larger than 315/75 in r16 either, and I know larger exist in 16" so maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place.

I don't need to do this instantly as I'm currently swapping around the 255/100 to get a usable set of 4 for the time being but I'm not sure how long they will last when I start actually doing any miles in it.

They're about 38" or so, right? 16+11+11?

Might fit, but probably even more unobtainable than the 255/100 xzls.

Do you have a massive pile of them, or was it just a suggestion?
The SIL has them fitted to the rebuilt 2B. Unsure where she got them from but wanted chunkier tyres for the cruising speed (updated gearbox & V8efi fitted) but standard FC rims
