My 2001 Freebie has developed white smoke from inside the exhaust heat shield at the front of the engine. It's very noticeable, but for some reason won't show in photos.

I've taken off the heatshield and shoved an endoscope down there but can't find the source. Definitely an exhaust smell to it though.

Using my ELM327 I can see injector 1 is faulty, but that happened after the smoke appeared.

Bearing in mind I'm on the "selling a kidney to pay rent" budget, is there anything I can do before handing it over to a garage?

Actually I do have better news, there is a chance for the inlet manifold gasket to be leaking. That is what I would check 1st.
My bad, forgot completely about that.
If you have no oil in coolant or coolant in oil, big chances that might be it. Quick 10quid fix and you can do it yourself if handyman.

Thank god! Deffo no oil in coolant, or vice versa. Will take a look at the guide now :)
