Hi guys. i need help for a friend, can anybody explain as to be understandable even for me if the camshaft alignment can be done without that dedicated tool cos he told me that he changed the belt but after two turns the signs are not together as at first setting, is that normal?, also after the belt tensioner was set there is one tooth difference as he said... unfortunately i'm completely dumb when it comes to mechanics so maybe i can't explain well, please if somebody can explain clearely how to do it without that tool i'll be extremely gratefull. Thanks in advance

The tool keeps the gears in the right place against valve spring pressure on the lobes, however if you have three hands and two spanners, you can get timing right without it, if I remember after a couple of turns the marks are nowhere near.

If the cams were timed correctly. After 2 exactly turns of the crank, the timing marks should be exactly together again. The crank turns exactly 2 revolutions for the cams to turn exactly 1 revolution.
If timing marks aren't lining up, they're not set correctly

You don't have to be embarrassed about coming on the Freelander section - you know you want to replace your Disco with a nice FL1....
