Hi all

Hope you can advise with this problem, from cold start up the idle is very erratic and drives rough, it seems once the engine warms up it drives great. its a newish engine fitted a couple of months ago that only had 80.000 miles on it

Glow plugs or injectors. Put a decent injector cleaner through it and only use decent fuel. No supermarket stuff, it's often rubbish. Mine hates supermarket diesel so I use Shell V Power most of the time.

Mine has the same symptoms, tried injector cleaner (twice) and always use decent fuel so I guess it's off to the menders for a checkup

thank you but wouldn't it show the same symptoms when the engine as warm as well.
No, a dying injector will work fine when warmed up, and then, eventually stop completely.
Glow plugs are rarely used to start a TD4, but to aid in running. If one (or more) is not working, 3 cylinders will be warm and one cold.

I found that I had 3 dead glow plugs which affected starting from cold when the engine was below about 10°C. However when the engine was between 10° and 15°C the glow light doesn't light, but I'm sure the glow plugs are still used to smooth the idle. My TD4 did suffer rough running when starting above 10°C, until I changed 3 of the plugs. I would have changed 4 plugs, but 1 simply refused to move.
