Hi all as per title I'm biting the bullet and getting a new battery for the range, it's a 3.0d 2004 and by the reg it shows a 019 battery but it's got an 020 one on there at the min. One place have told me to make sure I put the 020 one on again if that's what's fitted, the 020 is just over 40mm bigger in length but does it really matter as long at its got the same ah and cca? Thanks

Ignore physical Battery size, as you say it's the CCA and AH that you need to look at.
Don't get a cheap 'unknown' make though, get a known reputable one IMO.

This is what I have in my TD6.

There was a post recently about 019 020 batteries being the same in certain circumstances.
110AH 920 CCA

The biggest and best battery you can squeeze into the hole!! @gold rover has a story about the wrong battery fitted!! The more electricks you have the more juice needed or the alternator gets the strain.;)

Cheers been looking at a couple fo different brands exide, varta and hankook which come with either a 4 or 5 year warranty

Before you pay a lot for a battery with a long warranty, check the small print. Some times the retailer will only replace the item outright within the first couple of years, after which they will sell you a replacement for a percentage of the new price.

There's about £60 price difference between going for a 019 to a 020 and by the reg it's suppose to have an 019. If I did put an 020 on there and got any problems at a later date they might try and get out of the warranty as its not the recommended battery. We all know if shops can get away with anything they will. The ones I'm looking at are 100ah and 900 cca on an 019 which is more than the 020 battery I have on there at the min.

Avoid eurocarparts 'Lion' brand batteries.
Had problems with them a few years ago - they would last around a year then as soon as cold weather arrived they would die.
Chap behind the counter reckoned they got around 1/3 of them back within the warranty period.

Halfrauds and their 3 year warranty has never failed me. Just take the receipt in and say it won't hold a charge mate, and they give you a replacement.

Went through 2 of those in 6 months on the wife's old 1.2 corsa, they're dog sh1t
Replaced with exide which was better. Tanya batteries are meant to be good, lots on here use them

My tale of woe came from " by the reg it's supposed to have". It's really simple: do you have a Vogue or above then minimum 920CCA and 110Ah.
No matter who makes it, no matter what the mechanic or supplier says.
If it is an HSE, then you can get the lower one.
No ifs, no buts, no "oh its cheaper" , it won't be in the long run. I've just tried to explain this on another thread and was ignored. (Whats the point in asking for advice only to ignore it) I have posts on here, again and again and again about glitches and breakdowns and not starting , etc, etc. All because I was given the battery for my registration.
So for clarity : Vogue or above the correct battery is minimum 920CCA and 110Ah.

Hi

Funny u saying about Halfords as I would go there next time

Wouldn’t buy a battery online again as if anything goes wrong have to send it back at my expense, plus some couriers won’t transport batteries because of the acid

Would get a yuasa 019 next time for my D3, the current exide is an 017

Battery on my Sprinter is one of Halfords & TBH I can't remember when I fitted it - I think at least 7 years ago - but have had no issues (yet!)
Find someone with a Halford's Trade card as the discount on batteries is substantial.

As far as I'm concerned, 1000CCA 120AH which will fit in the P38 and the L322 is the way to go.
I always buy on line from Battery Megastore, never had to send one back, the one in my P38 is now 8 years old and still going strong but I never let batteries go below 50% charge.

Mine on there at the min is a Land Rover vatara one which is 850cca and 110 ah

I have a Bosch 020 on my 4.4 but the TD6 I was messing with for a while I put on a superbatt 019 for about £60 delivered and it’s still going strong after a year. It was done as budget was very tight and just wanted to get it through an MOT.
It’s spent a lot of its time parked up doing nothing as well. My Bosch is good too and I regularly let it go flat but still comes back to life after a short drive but again I hardly drive it

I just found a varta silver dynamic I1 110ah and 920cca for £119.50 so I think I'll go for that Monday as that seems to be the best offer around

Cheers for the heads up, not a big fan of euro car parts to be honest

I cannot fault Euros, bought my Bosch S5 020 from them, 3 weeks short of the 5yr warranty ending took it back as it wouldn't hold its charge and they just replaced it for me no questions asked.

Probably exactly the same as the Bosch battery but with a different sticker on it!
