It appears that my '01 Range Rover 4.6HSE is either infested with Gremlins who like to play with the door locks or it is in dire need of an exorcism.

In general, the door locks work fine. They will lock and unlock with the key fob as well as with the inside door lock buttons. The curious event is when they all of a sudden decide to lock and then unlock all on their own. Sometimes they just lock on their own and don't unlock. In this case, using the door button has no effect but the key fob will unlock them again.

This is happening very intermittently and occurs when I am driving as well as when the RR is just parked in the garage. So far it has just been a bit annoying but I fear it is indicative of a problem that could either cause a battery drain or at some point lock me out when least expected.

I do have a passenger door latch that takes a lot of effort to open. It does open but needs a strong squeeze of the handle to get it to pop.

So far I have lubricated all of the door latches, re-set the door locks, sprinkled with holy water and garlic cloves but still have the problem. I have not actually had it blessed by a priest as of yet.

If anyone has some insight as to how what is happening and how to stop it I would be very greatful.

If anyone

Know exactly what you are talking about as I had the same thing on my 01 Vogue. See my post http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/annoying-central-locking-fault-fixed-ipod-connectivity-sorted-113889.html here. Also this one here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/p38-o-s-f-door-lock-bounces-153306.html.

If you search for central locking you'll find many faults described. For me and your issue might be the same it was a duff door lock. Replacing it with a new one fixed it for me.

Now I have a slightly different issue with the CL in that occasionally one door does not unlock first time with the fob, but after re-locking and unlocking again with the fob it opens. Both doors on the passenger side do this from time to time with the passenger lock being only 18 months old.

Thanks for the information. At least now I have a place to start. I will update once I've checked out your suggestions.
