Hello, we have a suspected ignition switch issue, what checks can we do to confirm this before starting the strip down.

Any advice appreciated.

Thank you, we think it's the switch based on a post online we read with the same issues we have, dashboard lit up with lots of light, then stalled, now won't start, dashboard is dead, battery is OK and it was the ignition switch so we wanted to see how to confirm if this is our issue. Thanks

Have you checked the earth lead by the passenger side engine mount? It may look ok but they corrode inside the sheathing. Try a jump lead from the negative battery post to the engine.

Charge the battery then take a voltage reading after an hour and see what you have 12.8v is a good battery 12.4v is a dead battery
range rovers are very power hungry and anything other than a 100% battery and they will throw a wobbler just for fun, if the battery power is low it will go even lower as it turns over robbing ecu`s of the right amount of volts
if you need a new bat the vogue needs the biggest you can get in there an mf31 120ah 1000cca it fits with about 2mm to spare and you have to put the bonnet up in access position.

Apparently last week it was booked in at a LR specialist at the end of the month so wonder what they found?

Hello, also its still booked in the a LR specialist towards the end of April and apologies but I started a new thread as the first detailed the issues, this one was asking a specific question as to how to check something in particular so I thought it would be best as a new thread. Thanks again for the advice.

IMO it's still worth doing what brianp38dse recommended above and posting the results, you will need a multi meter anyway to check the voltage in and out of the ignition. I bought the battery recommended by Halfrauds for my L322 and it was fine when the car was used daily but after a few days sitting it struggled.
As said fit the biggest battery that will fit. MF31-1000.

Best to rule out one before you start looking for another.

If the RAC checked it then it could be anything I have told the story of them recovering a vehicle to the garage and their diagnosis was knackered starter motor. The engine had stopped while doing 70 mph and only clicked when trying to restart.Upon investigation the cam belt had snapped and the pistons and valves had a coming together.starter motor my rrrrr's

FAM blamed my starter motor some time ago whilst pointing at the alternator
