The hydraulic brake system will work normally regardless of the warnings... depending on the fault even some ABS functions can be functional cos there are more defaults according to the logged fault code... the simplest and fastes way to troubleshoot is by reading the fault code(s)

Frankly, I would be a tad worried that a connector under the vehicle should succomb to an ingress of moisture that easily. Such connectors are designed to be at least moisture resistant, if not waterproof. The same could be said about the sensors too.
It might be a "result" for you this time, but your ABS fault indicator shouldn't come on after an afternoon of light off-roading.
Maybe a good examination and reading any historic codes will yield a problem.

It must have been "a bit of light off-roading", you've still got road tyres on it, my cold weather road tyres have got a more aggressive tread pattern than those, and there's no mud on the roof. There's not even any mud on the bonnet and you can still see through ALL of the windscreen.
Doesn't alter what I said about the connectors and other bits underneath the vehicle.

He has posted videos.......in the what I did to my disco thread........nice gentle off roading, fair play as he says he does not want to wreck it.....It certainly was not going to tax the D2.

Nightmare this am, the "three Amigos". I don't have a diagnostic gizmo to plug into so I have no idea what is wrong but as the ABS look ghgood came in yesterday (eventually went off) I am suspecting the ABS sensor is dirty? Anyone got any other ideas? I could well do without spending 100 just to have it diagnosed.

But, now are you saying you have the 3 amigos?
If yes, then the best way to identify the 3 amigos is to use a proper diagnostic kit designed for the D2. Otherwise it is all guess work and you may end up spending money on the wrong bit.

As @neilly has already said, the best, actually the only way to difinitively find out what's going on is a code reader. Be careful not to use one of the cheapy ones off the bay, they MIGHT give you results, but there's no way to know whether or not they're telling the truth.
There are probably five "common" faults which can cause the 3 Amigos, and some less common ones too. The first four out of the five are the wheel speed sensors, one on each wheel, guessing can be expensive. The fifth reason is the Shuttle Valve Switch plate.
Under normal conditions I would suggest, even recommend that you carry out the well known modification to the SVS plate. It often costs nothing, if you don't replace the plate, about 40 quid if you do, it requires a couple of bits of wire and an hour or two to accomplish. At least, it would take that cause out of the "equation" for good.
Google "Disco 2 SVS modification" or search on the forum here for more details.
If you look at the "landroverclubvi.weebly.com/abs-mod.html" page, it will tell you all sorts of stuff about removing and rebuilding the ABS modulator, DO NOT get dispondent, scroll to the bottom of the page, all you need to do really is "Option B".

Ok thanks. I'm convinced it's not serious, yesterday and light on its own came in then after 20 mins disappeared, took car home and gave it the mother of all power washes , including underneath. Drive it for half hour this am, at motorway speed and then the three amigos (abs, traction and a downhill) lights came on. I'll have a play on weeeknd and see if I can see anything obv. Failing that I'll take her in. As she is in good nick I would rather spend a bit of cash to keep her in a1 condition. Hubs are about 200 to replace so may go that route. And yes I know, it's an old car, but it's stunning and I wanna keep it for years to
