I got my 06 Plate Adventurer in June last year.

A couple of weeks into owning it I noticed it was dropping power and then picking staright back up and sometimes when i was trying to pull away it had no power.

It went to Stratstone, who I can honestly say have been brilliant since i bought the car, I am in the motortrade myself and wish we could be as nice and helpful as they have been.

Anyway, they basically updated the software on the ECU which they said should cure the problem, in fairness it did but only for a few weeks.

Back to Stratstone again and they said the computer had picked up a fault with the Turbo Modulator and they replaced it.

Sure enough it was repaired for a couple of weeks and the symptons started again. Back it went and this time they replaced number four injector and the car has ran great for ages.

I took the car on a long run a couple of weeks ago to Gaydon for the Anniversary event and i noticed it was doing it again. I travelled well over 400 miles that day and by the time i got home it was worse than ever.

As it was booked into Stratstone for some paint work issues i got them to investigate again and they said it was another injector. The car only has 23000 miles on the clock.

My long winded question is, has anyone else had a similar problem with their TD4 so i can maybe suggest things to Stratstone as they have told me genuinely they have not experienced this with a Freelander.

I've also got a 2006 Td4 adventurer (a black 5dr), which I bought in June last year, mine's now up to about 25,000 miles.

I've only had one real issue with it, and one which I think was pilot error - when I first got it, it felt as though it had a flat spot when pulling away, and would occasionally bog down. I can only put that one down to the change in cars, as it is certainly not there any more (I traded in a Seat Leon Cupra R for the freebie, so maybe I was expecting a bit too much acceleration!).

The one real fault was one day driving down the M1 when it was wet, I lost all power, and it dropped down to about 55mph, but wouldn't accelerate any more. I got to where we were going, and left the car to sit in the car park. after sitting for 2 hrs, it was fine for the return journey. I booked it in at the local dealers anyway and they couldn't find any fault. They said it might have been either turbo modulator, or simply some moisture getting where it should have been.

Since then I've had it serviced by a mate's local garage, where it had a thorough going-over - the new turbo breather filter and air filters helped it feel more responsive. It's also had some injector cleaner run through a couple of times, which might have helped...

I don't know if any of this makes a difference to fuel consumption, but to give you a comparison, I am getting between 400-450 miles on a full tank, with a mix of short journeys and motorway.

Hopefully some of that might help a bit anyway!

EDIT: I also went to the Gaydon event, & on to Oxford afterwards and had no problems... One thought though, is that it was very hot that day, and my hesitation was last summer - could excessive heat be a factor?

My 06 plate freelander has now done 28,000 miles and I've had 2 problems with it so far. It took my local Stratstones 3 attempts to sort out a nasty suspension knock and then a non starting episode was resolved with a new (front) fuel pump.

My power isssues were resolved with both a Mafam and Pierberg Maf from Roverron ( this might be your issue?), followed by a synergy unit from the same guy. Fitted a K&N filter too and every tank of fuel gets a dash of Millers Oils Diesel Power Sport 4.

I must say she goes really well now with no hesitation from take off in 1st gear :) ,

best of luck sorting yer troubles,

Steve
