Crank sprocket removal

I got the damper off it's the gear which is driving the timing belt which I can't remove..
Thanks

The sprocket should just slip off. Maybe a previous owner has glued it in because of damage round the woodruff key. Try some heat. Worst case scenario, you will need a need crankshaft oil seal and sprocket.

Why do you need to remove it unless you want to replace the oil seal. Leave well alone if it is dry.:)

I got a new one as part of the timing kit from craddocks. Also the tensioner is different as it doesn't have the plastic lip on the idler pulley so am guessing this is a modified kit.
Have ruined the old gear which is stuck on the disco so definitely have to get it off now!!

Can anyone confirm whether or not this tool will fit the crank gear (not the damper) as am thinking of picking one up later from machine mart.
Many thanks

problem is getting anything behind the pulley, i cant remember if there is any room to get the little "feet" on the pullers you posted behind it. Was the edge of the belt you took off worn? If not then no need to change the pulley for the one with the lip but as you say youve now wrecked it. I generally turn to a hammer when things dont go my way. Using a pry bar might be worth a shot, but you will need to tap the pulley gently with a hammer too. If theres an indie garage nearby go get a new oil seal, its a 2 minute job and might save you a load of stress in the future. Good luck.

I can fit a pretty thick spade end screwdriver behind the gear, mostly due to bending the lip.
Am now at the point where any more levering could damage the rear casing.
Shall bite the bullet and buy the puller set tonight if I ever get out of work!!

I made up a puller. Flat bit of steel to go across the end of the crank with 3 holes in it that match the holes in the pulley. This is where the damper bolted; in fact you can use the damper as a pattern for the bolt holes IIRC.

I'll see if I can find it and take a picture.

Thanks, Im pretty sure the damper isn't bolted on mine (300) although I recall some small threaded holes on it. Any ideas of the size?

This is the only pic I have of the crank gear, not sure if it'll help though!

Im sure my 300, or my dads or my mates dont have three bolts holding the damper/pulley on, but i looked at a timing pulley on ebay and it does have 3 holes, maybe theyre meant to be there but people just left them off?

Havent got any better ones at the moment as am at work - was hoping to pick up a tool on the way home.
Ahh well will have to wait another day so shall measure the thread sizes with me tap 'n die set later..

Yeah there are 3 holes which aren't used for anything (ie attaching to damper).
My guess is they are there for extracting the gear- was just wondering what size thread they are :)

i was trying to make something up to stop the crank pulley/damper from turning once to get the big bolt out and used a few of the bolts that hold timing cover on i think they are the right thread, or at least they wind in! Not sure if they are the same as the timing belt pully though. Have you tried just ****ting it? Dont know if it will help but it might make you feel better.
