Up **** creek.
Hi there i own a 1996(N) 3.9 V8i LPG and since i bought it the ABS light has been on, ive taken it to a friend who has a small garage and tried hooking it up to his T4, the T4 refused to "talk" with the cars ABS ECU (it would talk to the cars other diagnostics) so we managed to get the ABS lamp to blink out a fault code by removing the relay and bridging the diagnostics sockets pins however it doesnt match the landrover fault codes i obtained from this forum (see earlier thread 300 abs light on) mine keeps reading 2-2 and there is no 2-2, anybody help?

I think 2-2 is the handshake code, then the fault codes follow. Do an internet search for 'discovery fault codes' there's a lot of info on the subject pictures and there's even a site with video clips showing the codes.

Have u replaced your ABS fault relay it can go faulty the easy way to check is by replacement they cost about £5.

yeah its not the handshake code, it comes after that, we also managed to retrieve the codes 3-8 and 4-14. 4-14 isnt on the chart but 3-8 reads "the ECU connection or wiring to inlet, isolating hydraulic modulator solenoid valve." what the hell does that mean?

had a similiar prob on my 300 tdi.. when you first turn on ignition does the warning lamp go through its test sequence? It should light up then briefly extinguish before coming on again then will stay on till car is moved.. if it dosen't go through this sequence there could be a problem with the warning lamp relay. I accidently came across this whilst trying to get lamp out after coming across numerous fault codes that didn't tally. i had a test lamp connected to the live terminal of the abs relay socket, i turned ignition on whilst explaining to a friend the prob i was having to find that it was working as it should be. put new relay in and worked fine.. Even if the relay isn't at fault if i've understood wiring correctly if you connect a test lamp to the live terminal of the relay socket (obviously leave relay out) then the warning lamp should behave as though there isn't a problem as without the relay the ECU can't tell the light to illuminate.. So at least should pass mot ok... hope this helps i spent hours trying to sort mine....

Hi, [email protected] and thankyou, ive just turned on the ignition and the ABS light stays permenantly on (it dims a little when i start the engine but so do all the other lights - as expected) there is also a little "click" sound about 2 seconds after i turn the ignition on. i will try the test lamp thing on the ABS relay, fingers crossed!!!

incidentally to make my life a little easier and to avoid confusion whereabouts is aforementioned ABS relay situated? cheers

I too have had this issue today. I found the abs pump relay to be corroded (the coil inside was open circuit). abs pump relay is under the glove box (RHD) car and has BIG(unusual) terminals on it, also has brown/red wire, white orange wire, brown/orange wire, and black wire. alos check and clean the contacts at the ABS Block, there is a mulitpin connector on the pump block and a two wire connector not far frmo the pump motor.

According to Haynes, a fault code 4-14 on my RRC which has a similar ABS and fault codes would be Front Left - Wiring to sensor broken or sensor resistance too high.

Hope that helps you out.

You should also check all wiring connectors/relays and Ground. Earth faults can throw up all sorts of silly faults. Another thin g to be aware of is that play in wheel bearings upsets the sensors, so it may be worth checking your wheel bearings for play.

BTW it would have been better to start a new thread rather than resurrect a really old one.

also worth noting - there are 2 sets of fault codes for the disco 300tdi ABS. when i had problems with mine i had to get both sets of codes as some faults where on 1 code list and some were on the other. unfortunately i cant remember where i got the 2 lists from but im sure i printed them out so i should have um somewhere if anyone needs um.

Just to be clear, if the light doesn't briefly extinguish it means that there are faults stored in the ecu. A stored fault is just that, one that happened but might not be present now, so the light could go out when you start moving.
If you want to diagnose an abs light staying on then you should clear all the stored faults before you start work. Make sure the light goes through its test sequence. It should light up then briefly extinguish before coming on again when you turn the ignition on, if it doesn't you need to clear the faults. Now drive off, the light will stay on if you have a fault present. You can read the faults and know that anything you find is a current fault and not an old one. There is a guide to reading the codes here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/richard.martin/discovery/abs diagnostics.rtf

Do you mean the 2.2 or 4.14

Got the 2.2 myself, tried the test lamp idea but light still on, swapped relay, no difference.

Even got a 'good' on of flee bay, that put up the same codes.
Am at wits end

Forgot to mention, is the engine service light supposed to flash as well. Got 1 long, 2 short (repeated 3 times) followed by 3 short, 5 short (repeated 3 times)
