There's never enough pictures on here so I thought I'd put some of mine up, also in the hope that it might inspire a few of you to rebuild that 100 quid ebay landy you've been thinking of buying.
A while back her indoors hinted (well i think she did) about having a landy just for herself - so one late night I purchased a 1984 SIII off ebay for a
couple of 100 quid - and just for a bit more fun I didn't go view it first,just based on the 3 pictures below - it looked original, unmolested and complete.
I managed to drive it onto the back of the trailer, which was a bonus as I'd driven from Stafford to Carnforth to collect, leaving any form of winch in the
garage. Seeing as I'd also not asked the seller if the engine ran (or if it actually had an engine) this was a bit of a result.
To be honest it didn't look to bad (from a few meters back) so I put a new rad in, taxed it and took it for an MOT - which it passed with NO advisory comments
(other than) "there's a brake light out at the back mate"
So it sat on our drive getting the very occasional use for the next 10 Months - her in doors comes out in a rash if she drives anything more than 3 years old
so needing something to keep me busy, while she was out for the day I dismantled it.
It was coated in a nice thick sand/grit/waxoyl mix of grime.
It clearly wasn't mint - bearing in mind this had passed a MOT less than a 1000 miles ago.
Both dumb irons are past their prime, as shown by the quantity of rust that came out of them.
The engine sounded a bit tired and lumpy, so it was pulled apart and put back together over the winter.

Eventually it was all sorted with new dumb irons, chassis primed, undercoated and overcoated.
And slowly it started coming back to life, with refurbished or new original brake components, bearings and seals. Until eventually in moved on it's own
wheels for the first time in ages - albeit with a little help from the 110
So now the weather is nice again and there's more than 2 hours of daylight the engine has gone back in after it's rebuild and sounding like a wannabe V8.

The cooling system has been cleaned and flushed using neat vinegar and a couple of those dish washer tablets (patent pending on the method)

Lots of the larger internal components have been rebuild and refurbished.
A brand new Rists loom has been acquired.
So next it'll be a bit of bulkhead repairing - under the windscreen and corner tops look fine but it's going to need both footwells, both full door pillars
and mounts and anything else that crops up once the paint has been stripped.
