Hello all,

I was wondering whether someone could tell me how easy/difficult it would be to remove the front spoiler (complete with lights) and the side steps from my Rangey. It's an N reg 4.6 HSE.

I bought it last weekend and it's passed MOT and a bit of a road test but it has sidesteps and the fairly low front spoiler with lights attached. I was planning on taking him to Kirton at the weekend but the steps and spoiler could be in for trouble if I do.

Please keep in mind when replying a complete lack of mechanical experience (think somewhere between a sponge and an old sock and you are somewhere close when it comes to mechanical know-how). Is it feasible to get it off myself? If so any advice gratefully received.

Other than that I was going to see if I could get a reasonable set of mud tyres (BF Goodridge MT tyres was suggested) and leave it at that. He's been bought purely for a bit of off road fun for me and my family (probably usually me and my lad) so I don't want to go too mad just yet.

Kirton seems to have some good places to practice and find my feet so I thought I'd try there. I've done a few land Rover courses and am doing an advanced day in June but wanted to get my toes wet/muddy in the meantime.

Looking forward to contributing.

Many thanks to all.

I'd try it first with them on. You'll be surprised how little they actually get in the way. Just crank the suspension up to full off road height.

I've been up to my side steps in mud before, but they're steel underneath so they don't cause a problem. As long as you're not going too mad, that is.

I'd recommend General Grabber AT2s as a decent all terrain tyre. P38s are a bit fussy with tyres, especially on larger wheel sizes, but mine was pretty impressive off road even with the standard Pirelli Scorpions (The STs anyway. The replacement STRs were useless).

Oi Guy .................. Stop rainin on my parade will ya .....I'm tryin to get a cheap set of Side steps here !!!:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Sorted! My apologies also. I had no idea it would be that easy (scraped knuckles and rusty bolts aside). From the description I'd read it looked like the spoiler included the front fogs as well but a bit of scrabbling underneath today showed they are part of the bumper assembly. A few pinged clips later and it was off. Steps are off also and were equally easy. The mud flaps were pretty goosed and a bit rotted but the 4 rubber mouldings that I assume are part of the steps are in good nick.

Make me a sensible offer Hoody and you can have them. Failing that they were going on Fleabay anyway but you can happily have first refusal on them.

I've decided to swap the tyres as the ones on there are general road tyres by the looks of them, not even as chunky as my Pirelli Zeros on my Disco, and also they are looking a bit cracked and dry on the walls. I didn't fancy them giving way on the first set of crusty ruts they met so I've found a set of AT2 Grabbers and they are going on tomorrow (thx for the recommendation Guy). I'm going to leave it at that for now although if I keep at it I may pop some rock sliders on there just to protect the door bottoms etc at some point.

So many thx for the help. If I manage it I'll get some photos up on the Intro forum and a couple of pics of the side steps if you want them Hoody. Toodle pip all. I'll keep you posted.

Here you go Hoody. As far as I can see they are in good nick. No scuffs even and no rust or anything else nasty. I was looking to see who they were made by or a part number but I can't see anything.

youll need some where to recover from.Apprently a jate rring can be fitted to the front. Now you got the spoiler off it should be easier to do.

Don't worry goonarmy, he'll get stuck somewhere and then vaguely remember reading that someone had in fact advised him to get a towing ring! :D

Well I've never got stuck and I don't have recovery points either! Got a towbar now but it's actually very hard to fit recovery points to a P38.

He'll be fine as long as he doesn't get too carried away. Just remember that they don't like deep water...
