As this is a topic that comes up periodically I thought I'd bring it back up for the benefit of those who'll do a search.
So far I've fixed 4 P38s where the symptoms have been the three lights flashing when you press the brake pedal, mushy pedal feel and occasional traction and abs failure messages. Now traction and abs problems should be investigated thoroughly, I AM NOT saying this is a cure for those; but if the messages come up only from time to time and as a SECONDARY symptom to the three lights and the mushy pedal then in my case 4 times out of 4 I changed the accumulator and hey presto.
Takes 5 minutes including de-pressurising. It wasn't necessary to bleed the system after, just topping up the brake fluid for the amount that went with the old accumulator is enough.
