Would these springs fail an mot?

They look a bit rusty and slightly cracked but cant figure out if this is gonna cause any issues?

Id rather replace now if its gonna cause it to fail.

also, any ideas if these are standard springs? The front my truck sits significantly higher then the rear does, and I wonder if they are the wrong springs?

Standard springs, look in good nick, leave well alone.

The reason your vehicle rides higher at the front is probably that the rear springs have sagged over time, and the fronts may have been replaced.

You could order some new rears, I would go with standard springs, avoid heavy duty if you value your skeletal health.
 
They look in better condition than mine in regards to paint flaking off an rusting but but as long as the spring itself is in good condition then nothing to worry about
 
Item 12, ignore part nos as this is 110 model, and I am not sure if you have 90 or 110.

The springs look fine.
There was a discussion about the bottom spring plates and they may be upside down which would give lift.

Nobody going to mention the spring saddle/cup is fitted upside down?
This would also make it sit approx 3/4 to 1 inch higher than it should be.
Hadn't even noticed. But that also adds credibility to the theory of the front springs having been changed.

Unless they put them on like that at the factory, which I wouldn't rule out.

Must have been like that a few years going by the condition of things, cant believe the spring has not shunted sideways as there is literally nothing holding it in place apart form the vehicles weight.

Yes. It doesn't seem to have the little spring retainers that my Ninety had on it.
They were like a small flat bar with two holes in it, and went across on top of the bottom coil of the spring, with the same bolts through them that held the spring cups in place.
Guessing they were done away with on later models for cost saving.
 
Only the fact that the front spring has the shock in the center is keeping it in place. You can see it is not centered on the upside down spring pan. Get them off and put right. Spring looks fine. Check rear pan's

I think my 93 rears have the flat bar, not sure on the fronts.

Even with the shock the spring could shunt sideways a good inch or two.
 
Well, thats not what I expected.

Cant tell if im relived or more worried now?
I cant work on my truck for a while, reckon its still safe for the next month or so?

Weird that been offroading, general driving for years and its never had an issue
 
Another update, check the right hand side and its been done correct way up that side. Odd that who ever put my truck together got it wrong on only one side.

Its a cat something and since getting it I dont think a month has gone by without spotting a bodged job.

Pretty sure the left hand side was the side it was crashed on so could explain it

Not unusual, Pretty much every old Land Rover I have ever seen has been a mass of hideous bodges.
And some of them done by professional garages.

I would get spraying that bottom shock absorber nut with duck oil as they can be a real toss to get undone
