Hi everyone can some one give me some advice as to which model 110 I should get?

I can stretch money wise to a high milage 2008 but would it be better to get a 2.5 or a really good TD300.

She will only get ocasional use during the week but out every weekend, I am selling my 90 50th Anniversary V8 Auto to help fund the purchase as she is now to small to cope with 4 dogs and 2 children and a wife.

All comments appreciated.

There all good, the 300 TDI doesn't have any ecu's so dont mind getting soaked etc and simpler to maintain, saying that the TD5 engines have plenty of grunt and are very reliable, The puma is suppose to be lovely to drive smooth engine with plenty of torque.

The main thing to buying a Landy is condition of the chassis, bulkhead and doors.

Personally i dont discount high mileage vehicles my 300TDi 90 has 184k miles on it and is mechanical sound (i have never had to touch the engine or gearboxes) I have only put about 10k on it in 5 years and i mostly use it @ off road sites, but it has no welding on the chassis except the cross member and where i ripped a bracket off when i hit some big rocks, The bulkhead has had no repairs either.

I have seen some TD5's that need major repairs to both the bulkhead and chassis.

I believe the puma has a more comfortable cab and seats. But it is easy enough to fit other seats to any defender, i have half bucket seat's that are adjustable and very comfortable they only cost about £300.

I guess what I'm trying to say is the old TDI engines are good for a few hundred K before needing a rebuild, I believe the TD5's go for about as much as well so millage isn't really a problem, You need to find one thats pretty much rust free and has been looked after.

If you get one that has a good bulkhead, chassis, gearbox and transfer box with a sweet sounding engine that doesn't burn oil then go for that one.
Everything else you can change to suit yourself eg seats, carpets, stereo equipment

Sell the wife & kids to a slave trader ! an the dogs to your local chinky and keep the v8 .....hey presto job done ! :D

Just remember even a landy with 40k on the clock can still be knackered, depends on the owner etc, but for example, when I had my series, it had done 57k (ish) and needed LOADS of work on it, just try bare that in mind before you buy I would say is an important thing !!

So are all the TD good for big miles or do the get problems at different times?

I've been driving around in a V8 with 126k and it never missed a beat are the diesels the same?

Sorry for all the questions but I need to get this purchase right as I will be keeping her for a long time.

I think the genral rule is 2.5 na and the 200tdi will last forever, 300tdi will last almost forever, just sometimes not quite as reliable as a 200, td5's last a very long time, however I've heard LOADS of people complaining about there poor reliability, but I wouldn't let you put you off because I would say they are all designed to last, far longer than say a fiat scudo that just fall to pieces at about 100k miles, there was a article I LRO magazine a couple years back where a guy ran a 200tdi and it has done half a million miles !!!!
