can anyone tell me where the fuses are under the bonnet on my 1986 defender 90 4c. i put a fuse in a space on the interior fuse box but when i went to start it i never had any power so i removed the fuse and tried again still nothing, iv checked all fuses on the interior but there must be another box or sumit as i have nothing still. i heard theres a single fuse under the bonnet but i cant find it anywhere. someone please help.

i have i know where that is but i checked all the fuses and still nothing, someone mentioned a fuse or suses under the bonnet. for some reason after putting the fuse in the interior box it lost all electrical power so i need to find this underbonnet fuse

300 tdis have some main fuses on passenger footwell under bonnet earlier ones dont all fuses are in the box and relay for starter, power for car comes from wires connected to starter

well im stumped then coz i cant find any relays or anything just a few of old glass house style fuses by the gearstick and thats it, i checked them and they seem fine so i got no idea now just dropped dead from that single fuse.

also i replaced one of the glass fuses as it was blown and i managed to get ignition lights back but soon as i went to start it all died again and nothing, so im completly stumped on where to go next

As per the other thread: looking at my manual the live from the battery goes straight to the starter motor and most things are supplied from there. Check you are getting 12v at the starter motor - should be a BROWN wire ;)

5 watts better, 55w headlight a bit burny & melty if you leave it on the seat or summat while testing, doesnt take much to melt fabric/vinyl

ok will try a 5w tomoro, just say there is no power etc whats my next step as i got power at battery, or lets say there is power at the starter then what, will itv not be something else seen as i have power at battery but no dash light or anything else???

If there is 12v at the starter motor you then need to check for 12v at the fuse box infront of the gearstick - you are trying to narrow down where the problem is.

It would be easier to use a tester/meter but as the guys have said a 5W bulb with 2 wires will do to show you 12v.

Just have a quick check that your battery leads are connected to the battery properly and using the light check the earth to the engine too (1 wire off 5w bulb on + on battery and other wire to engine block - if ok light should come on)
