What's the compartment on a P38 behind the battery for?

looks like you have no battery securing strap, thats an MOT fail
It's a google image that I stole. But mine doesn't have a strap either, but it does have a cover.
Cover supersedes the need for a strap.
Also mine looks a lot grubbier

Mine hasn't got a cover.. made a strap out of a bit of wire.. kept mot man happyPickey.
Put the cover on they cant see it

Cover does not supersede strap, there should be both.

Fair enough but I would prefer to have the strap, the cover will hold nothing in an accident.

Same.. lead acid batteries can get quite scary quite quickly

No cover on our two but definitely held down with straps.
Not having it held down is asking for trouble dude!!
When mine skidded at 40mph the battery wept down the wing behind the indicator like a tear drop.. Stained the paint black. The battery could have been smashed into the inner if not held down.... Then I'd of had a bigger mess to deal with.

Both my 1998 GEMS have the ECU in that box by the battery.
