Hi, I have a MY 2012 RRS, which is my second (the first one was a MY 2010).

I used to have Continental SportContact tyres, which I felt provided loads of grip. I now have Goodyear Excellence (275/40 R20) and feel less in contact with the road.

However, I'm getting way more miles with these tyres - already at 18k miles and still 5mm of tread left.

I'm wondering about going back to Continental tyres, or even Pirelli Scorpion's, but not sure if the life on them will go well down or whether the change in grip 'feel' is because of any suspension changes LR have made.

I don't offroad but I do live in Scotland and want to feel well prepared for snow and ice.

Anyone got any advice??

Only thing i can say to that is if the tyres have worn down that much in 18,000 miles, either they were **** tyres or you drive like a prat. :D

It's not like our old oil burners Tony, it's got a big powerful engine that can spin the wheels:eek::rolleyes::eek::)

Never thought of that Keith my error. So if you have a lot of power you are entitled to drive in a manner likely to use a set of new tyres in nine months, cool. :D:D

Looking online, anyone got any experience of Pirelli Scorpions?

And, yes, I might well drive way too quickly but it's fun...

Scorpions are good...

Driving like a plank giving Landie and Rangie owners a bad name - not so much....

The sport was an experiment 'Can we make a fast 4x4 - hmmmm yes we can' it is not a track car, race car, super car or a sports car - it is a Range Rover and with that comes a responsibility to maintain the 63 year Land Rover heritage, promote awareness of careful considerate driving, instill a responsible driving attitude - that way the bobble hat wearing ramblers won't have ammunition to throw at us saying we are all hell raising, irresponsible, ground damaging throttle junkies only hell bent on driving like idiots.

Yes the V8 has a great sound, yes they can accelerate rapidly - but I do urge people to respect the fact that the Range Rover is a Rolls Royce on stilts and should be driven as such....

The Evoque is doing enough to ruin the Range Rover brand without irresponsible driving being added to the mix!!

Can't quite work out if the question was about tyres, 5mm is plenty of tread when the minima is 1.6 mm. Or just telling us he has a 2012 Sport.
