Aye, fur some reason.. somebody showed me how to do it when ah was a kid and it's somehow kinda stuck! If we're away somewheres, ah usually manage to knock up an extended dog lead out of some rope that's been washed up somewheres!
Only difference bein', ah tend to melt the ends rather than usin' tape and make them quite a bit longer;):D

I acquired it specially. Many of the modern screw in tow eyes are only designed to be pulled at a max angle of 15 degs. They like to sheer for a past time. I would keep it in the glovebox but there's a built in multi-changer in it hence being in the welly boot in the vehicle boot (right next to the high viz vest, coat and overtrousers, oil, pre-mix antifreeze, screenwash, bulbs, rock salt, road grit etc etc);).

I have quite a large collection of acquired towing eyes in my truck and try to remember to switch them from my truck to my landy when I use it for work.

We are not allowed to use screw-in eyes for recovery without back-up chain round axle, any more - so just go straight for the chain option on its own! :)

We're the same at work except for we use straps. Our flat beds aren't allowed to load a car without using special safety straps aswell as using the towing eye or axles strap.
 
Plane and simple nokian Hakkapililata's have won all the scandinavian tyre tests for years, they are easily the best on snow, and preferably with spikes! Many countrys that have snow in winter make it the law to have winter tyres, maybe the uk will adopt the same strategy now the new ice age is upon us!
 
If you intent to visit a country that has a requirement to have 'winter' tyres you have a snow flake or m+s sumbol or both on the tyre sidewall as my Goodyear Eagles GT+4 have

I can do varying splices, you could pop down a chandelry and buy the anti chafing inserts, then splice the eye round them, how thick is the rope? Do you ever worry when towing about the rope jumping of the towbar? im usually cautious of this, rather than slip over or clip on i usually make 2 turns then lock them and finish with 2 half hitchs.

going to glossop tomorrow to a farm to get some dog food so whilst i am up there i will have a play in the snow know a few places up there i can try my tyres out :D

These ropes are fifteen feet long, about a full inch diameter, about 90mm to measure round the outside.

I splice small eyes on the ends, and they need a shove to get them over a 50mm towball. I have never had one come off.

These ropes are far too fat to be able to tie a hitch round a towball.

The other ends gets a shackle to fit the tow-eye loop of the victim.

just had to nip out in the snow and i am glad to say i am pleased with the BFGs and i have got a trip out to glossop tomorrow :D

now have Cooper STT's on the 110 V8
unstopable! behave stunningly on road, compact snow through to up to 2 ft of fresh snow ( would go deeper but havent found any yet) up 1in3.
Very pleased!:D:D:D:D
 
well the snow never came overnight that was promissed but i still went to glossop and i was really impressed with the tyres i only went in a foot deep as i was on my own and didn't want to get stuck and yes i am hooked on them well chuffed :D:D
