My dad past away in June left a H reg discovery V8 EFI I’ve got it running and MOT and on the road it starts fine and ticks over revs up great but when you drive it it feels like it’s holding back it seems down on power especially when you come to a hill on the motorway it dies a bit has anyone got any ideas I’ve put 8 new plugs in it fresh oil change it doesn’t cut out but I do no the emissions are high on it .

The H prefix takes u to the first EFI 3.5 engined disco from Aug 1990 to July 1991. The 3.5 is not the most powerful of disco 1 V8s… but you shouldn’t find an issue going up motorway hills other than pushing down the throttle a bit further maybe, for other hills u may have to drop a gear ratio as well.
Perhaps a full service is required, replacement filters and checking the vacuum pipes etc even fuel pressure.

So how are comparing the vehicles performance, is it with a similar model disco ? And what is the mileage on the clock.

Not really comparing it to another discovery just the way it feels to me not sure of the mileage as my dad did a lot of work to it I am sure he changed the engine at some point I no the emissions are high on it so running rich but not sure you can adjust them

The fuelling for the engine is controlled by an ECU, so cause & effect, find out why its running rich it could be as simple as an iffy temperature sensor.
Some 3.5s were fitted as a customer option with an exhaust catalyst which sometimes have their own problems with sensors.

Possibly it would be a good idea to put the vehicle in the hands of an independent LR garage for a ‘shake down’ and then go and enjoy driving it, as it’s simples for DIY servicing. 😀
