Tyres! Ha - No joke! :-D

I know this will p*ss off LOADS of people but i'm trying to find out what the most fuel efficient tyres for my MOD 90 Defender, with Wolf wheels??

I have searched at least 10 posts on the site, and the 2nd or 3rd thread on them is always the same it says 'SEARCH' which i have and can't find me answer! - Thats why i'm asking :-D

a 750,16 tyres with road tread

my 205 75 r16 road tyres worked well for me, averaged about 32mpg in my 200tdi defender 90. That was with tendencies towards lead footedness aswell

Mitchelin XCL's have the lowest rolling resistance but also not amazing tyres on road in the wet they can be a handful if you don't slow down

Fit a good quality all terrain and be done with, it'll be the best compromise between fuel economy and grip, skinnier tyres will give less rolling resistance.

if your serious of just going for economy then get a commercial 750r16 steer tyre about 14pr , ride comfort and grip in the wet might suffer a bit tho . while you are at it get a sheet of lexan about 5 foot wide (clear) and lay it on front of landrover so it starts just below front wingtop and finishes above windscreen pop rivet into place .
Excuse sarcasm but low rolling resistance tyre is a total waste on something like a landrover the fraction of a percent that it might increase economy with all the other factors involved , other requirements will give a better bang for buck factor HTSH

as posted previous a not overwide AT will prob be best compromise

Just for the record I bought Michelin latitudes about a year ago, as I had bought some second-hand aloys and the tyres on them were dreadful (and ATS were offering 4 for the price of 3).

They are very quiet and were excellent in the snow (and fine for towing etc) and have performed well in fields (I'm mostly out with daughter and horse, so not really seriously off-roading).

However, I've lost one to a nail already (went into an area which couldn't be repaired) and I will defnitely be changing for something more resilient in a couple of years or so (am planning to drive round - and more importantly across - Iceland the year after next), so be careful if you're around farm areas, boat yards etc.[/I]
