Hi rangie fans, my mate has recently bought an L322 and today on the way to work it went into limp mode with the above message. It seemed to clear itself and all seemed fine. He hoped it was just a glitch... however... when we left work, it wouldnt engage drive so he switched off and tried again. It drove for about 100 yards and lost drive. It did this 3 further times. In the end i had to tow him back to the job site and take him home. He's gutted. What are the possible/most likely issues? Is he looking at a new gearbox?

I had this, what you need to do is turn round on the spot 3 times whilst doing an incantation with words ending in............Oh wait, that's for another forum, sorry.

Ahem, It may be just low fluid level.

What procedure did you follow to enable towing?

I know that incantation, its "f@cking piece of sh!t!!"... anyway, no procedure for towing, though i've since found out that i maybe shouldn't have towed him. Apparently there is some procedure to disengage the transfer box but never mind, it was less than half a mile....

There were five different transmissions used in the L322 during its 10 year production run. Which model/year is your mate’s?

Phil

P.S. Inserting a fuse in position 37 is only required in earlier models with the NV225 transfer box. For later models fitted with the Magna DD295 unit this isn’t necessary, LR just state that towing speed should be limited to 50km/h with a maximum towing distance of 50km. Obviously the vehicle should never be towed on 2 wheels (suspended tow).

Hi phil, its a 2003 3.0 TDV6 HSE, not sure what gearbox.

A refurb and a Sonnax valve block and it'll be sorted for a lot of miles. Regular fluid changes too - it is not sealed for life whatever LR say.

Hi Folks,

I have been advised to get a Mechatronic Unit rebuild for my Trans Safe issue. I have not explored the cost yet as have been concentrating on getting my SC running every day after some immobiliser issues. Thankfully, she is now and this is my next quest after my holiday.

I have been driving in sport mode manual upshift and it downshifts automatically with super smooth changes. I had the gearbox oil changed and it actually made the auto upshift worse. My issue is 3 to 4 over rev tripping the limp home mode whenever I put the car in Drive or S and leave it to shift automatically. I'll post any news on my thread as I go on.

Fingers crossed I can get this rebuild done and avoid a full gearbox rebuild as this has been quoted by a firm in Barnsley at £2,000.

Tricky.

I would do it yourself and then you know all genuine parts have been used.

A full set of new solenoids (1068 298 044) costs £260.

A genuine IBS Filtran filter/sump + 7 litres Lifeguard Fluid 6 + new sump bolts + Mechatronic connector sleeve + bridge seal + 4 jump tubes adds a further £232. So basically you’re looking at £500.

I guess the biggest issue then is whether or not to have the adaptions reset.

Phil
