So my pump is leaking like a sieve, to fix it its either going to cost about £30 and DIY it (if I can) but we will see about that or £800 + and the cost for a 97 isn't worth it, so I am at a cross roads, and having to think hard about keeping the Landy, and trying to justify spending £800 on it, when its not worth much more than that... I dont feel confident enough really to try and fix it myself, even if it could only be the top seal on the pump... we will see how it pans out, but tbh its not looking good for the old girl and me,

I've had a similar problem and came to the conclusion "fix the bloody thing" if you get rid of it Dopey you'll miss it like mad! Then you'll only perhaps go and buy a diffrent one! Which WILL come with a whole set of new problems at least you know the truck. A guy I know well on here removed his pump, resealed it, replaced it and retimed it all in his garage on his own! And he had never done one before. Now it runs fantastic. They arnt that scary. Cost him about £100 With the seals and timing tools you need. Don't give up on her! Better the beast you know!

What else can you get for £800

Even if you spend 2 grand on a car
Doesn't mean it will be perfect better the devil you know
Unless you know of little demons arising .

Having seen your P38 in the metal, it is a well kept example of a 97 Diesel.

It is immaculate and the engine bay is pretty spotless....

Unfortunately though, I am not confident enough to give you a hand to fix it, as me and precision are not good bed fellows, and even though I am competent with a spanner on most things, having read posts on how to set up the pump and the fine tolerances needed, even I know my limits...

If it was my car, I'd give it a go, but on someone elses...no, really sorry Tony!

I think you are under selling your P38, it is worth more than £800 - not with a dodgy pump admittedly, but if it was in fine fettle, yours is a very well looked after example and worth a lot more.

Think hard before you make the decision, and shop around for a good price to fix.

Get it sorted!!

I've had my FIP apart numerous times, removed replaced etc etc

It really isn't as hard as they all make out

I will have a word with the diesel mechanic at work before I do anything... he can look at it and see if he wants to take the job on at m8s rates

^^^ like he said.. when it sets, you pull the bottom bit apart, and you break the JB leaving a jagged edge, then you mach it up when you put it together

what pump has it got on it ? i did a complete pump reseal on my wifes car it has a standard bosch ip took me 2 hours didnt remove the pump from the car either. i have a full write up with photos i can post if you have the same type ip
