TD5 WTF Think i need a LR Mechanic in Cornwall.

Well just had an interesting trip from Herts to Cornwall. 8.5 hrs

Engine kept dying. waited a few seconds or up to 15 mins, then re started.

Didn't like going over 57ish
didn't like low speed
didn't like foot off the revs if over 50ish going down hill
didn't like sudden rev changes up or down.
liked 40-50 nice and steady
What kind of fault should I be looking for?

May need a LR mechanical in the Redruth area to take a look.
Guess a fault reader may be needed.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

And need to get back home early next week.

probably need fault codes reading, but could be throttle potentiemeter or associated wiring, or fuel pump

You're close to Turbo there Mate otherwise my bloke at Ian Whitehair Engineering is outstanding but he's back here in SE Cornwall 1 hour from you.

I assume you've checked all the usual things that lead to peculiar running characteristics. Oil in loom, MAF malfunctioning, air or fuel filter in poor condition, turbo hoses deteriorating, to name only the most usual of usual suspects. I got some weird symptoms when the main electrical connection to the alternator was loose on my TD5. These included odd changes in engine note, gauge needles dropping and then twitching up again, lights going dim and bright. The voltage had just dropped low enough to the point where the ECU didn't like it.

My money is on the throttle position sensor.
Are you able to read the ecu error codes with a Nanocom or Hawkeye?

Broke down on the way to these guys, recovered to there garage, they tell me the ECU is fried!
