td4 fuel pump noise??

when i turn on the ignition and start engine i get a sort of ticking,pulsing sound from the fuel pump in the tank, if i turn off ignition and then restart engine this noise normally dissapears, if i dont restart ignition, i can drive for miles without hearing the noise from intank pump, but when i stop and listen carefully i can then hear it, so what i tend to do is start engine, then switch off, then restart so as not to get this noise.
i phoned landrover and they said its normall for the pump to make a pulseing sound and not to worry,, but it must be a fault for the noise to go after i restart,, freelander drives like a dream, its just bit of a pain this ticking ,pulsing sound,, just wondering wheather anyone else come across this before i start stripping things down,,,,
ive been in the motor trade for 25 years so not a novice, never had this before...

i can sometimes hear the pump kick in when i switch on, if i listen hard enough
but at 250squid a time i wunt go rippin it out if its workin ok they rely on bein submerged in fuel for lubrication and dont last long out of the tank

leave well alone mate and turn the radio up a touch

cheers for that,, but if i dont do the restart nonsence, you can here it, its not a continual noise, but a like tick, then tick like pulse, like primeing just like to listen to another one, see if theyre all noisey,,,,,,,,,

Hi Orson . . .sounds like yer rear pump has gone bit iffy ,but it is still working the rear pump is a weak bit on the freelander, but afore you go stripin it down check to see if your fuel filter has bin changed recent, also on the pump/fuel sender [its a all in one] there is a mesh filter and wax build up is common , try sticking fuel cleaner in for a bit,might shift it ,but remember it will also rake the ****e in ya tank ,so after a month of cleaning defo change that filter. . . .oh un best of luck earthling. . .

i had the same thing with an astra sri i once had.I ran the car for 4 years with out any probs from the pump except for the noise.Dont worry.If it ant broke then dont mess!!!
