hi guys
tried this in the rangie zone to no avail. can anyone on ere help please?

i'm pretty sure this has been covered before but i'm buggered if i can find it!
my j reg classic has been standing for a while and when i got into it i found that the steering has got very heavy. it was perfect when i left it, all fluids and belts look ok. any body any ideas please?

yep, you need to jack up the front end and turn the steering then, all the track rod ends and the swivels will have light corrosion internally and need freeing off gently with no adverse pressure on them (why the wheels have to be off the ground)
 
thanks for such a quick reply. poor things been waiting outside the mot garage since august, and i hadn't used it much before that. i'll ask him to do that when (if) he does the mot. btw is 4 months waiting for an mot some sort of record?

same day mot's with us, they have to be pre-booked these days or the ministry can come down hard on yer
 
i thought that was just for taking cars to an mot station? what happens if a garage are working on a car and then mot it? i normally just take cars and leave them, normally from weekend to weekend cos of work.
 
no problem whilst it is in the garage for work etc. it is done now to stop mot stations from doin fast mots or even "ghost" mots
 
well you learn something new every day. i knew they had to log the time on the computer to make sure they spend long enough on it, but i honestly didnt know about pre booking. thanks

yep its one of the ways that they are calling on mot stations now, just turning up and trying to get an instant mot done (which you cannot do as they all have to be booked in or at least keep the presenter waiting for 15 mins to qualify as pre-booked)
