Hi all, hoping someone can help?
I have been having intermittent starting problems - turn the key and get one click. Having done a little bit of reading I thought I'd try the plunger and copper contact repair kit. With the help of my father in law, that was fitted today. Now however, when I turn the key, instead of getting one click, if I hold the key I get repetitive clicks but the engine fails to start at all. Does anyone have any ideas? Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks

As Optimus Prime suggests sounds like flat battery or dead cell. Have you tried to start with your headlights on, if they dim down then it's either a faulty battery or poor connection either engine to earth or feed from battery to starter solenoid.

Firstly, check and make sure that the battery is fully charged and the battery connections are tight and secure. Then - try to start the car - if it does the same then look carefully at the dash warning lights.

If the dash lights flicker significantly with the clicking noise then either you have a bad connection on the battery terminals or body earth or the battery is knackered.

If the lights don't flicker much then you may have a bad earth on the starter (which seems hard to comprehend if you have tightened the bolts) OR Did you re-attach the battery EARTH lead to the bell-housing when you re-fitted the starter? It uses the starter motor bolt? If you have left this off then when you get it going again check carefully everything electrical - on some cars it's possible to damage the wiring loom if this happens (as the starter current will earth through other wiring...)
