This is probably going to be one of those stupid questions.....but.

I have a snorkel on my 300tdi, although i don't drive through anything deeper than a fairly shallow puddle. It was absolutely throwing it down today which made wonder.
With the top of the snorkel (safari style) facing forwards does this not suck all the rain water in and down to my air filter??

the amount of water taken in via the snorkel would be insignificant.

Dont have a snorkel as i dont go wading either but i would have thought they would have some sort of one way valve in the bottom before the engine intake

Moto x and enduro bikes have a rubber one in the bottom of the airbox that will let water seep out if it gets in but dirt and water cant come back in through them

Landrover standard airboxes have a rubber 'thing' that is supposed to do that, so the snorkels don't need it if they're plumbed in via the airbox as they should be! However, it's ****e and really needs blocking off ... it really isn't an issue if the connections are airtight ..

Mines sealed... Also removed the impeller inside, much better air flow. Could just turn it around in heavy rain or use one of the prefilter socks

I've still got my safari snorkel head spun round since being in the desert, I did wonder about rain water getting in whilst driving, but there is a non return rubber flap thing on the lowest point of the air intake which I presume allows water out before hitting the airbox. I have sucked water in through the airbox before I fitted the snorkel by momentarily submerging the intake grill on the wing just for a second or two and I buggersd my MAF sensor and sent bits of air filter through the turbo.

I was told that snorkels were not actually intended for deep water but more for really dusty conditions, if your following a vehicle the dust cloud tends to hang at waist height so a snorkel at hieght works well.
