slipping clutch

Hi everyone.
I am new to landy zone and not a mechanic!

I have a well looked after 300 tdi 90 (1996).
Last year the clutch went and I had it replaced.
Over the last couple of weeks when I accelerate there seems to be some over revving.
I think this is a clutch slipping. The problem does seem to reduce a little once the car has been running for a while.

If it is indeed the clutch should I take it to the garage that fitted it and starting asking questions?

Any advice will be truely appriciated.:)
 
what went wrong with the clutch to be replaced?

i got stiched up by a company called plain rovers a couple of years back the clutch went on my 90 so i had it replaced at a cost of £500

it was only when we done an engine swap 3 months later we found all he had replaced was the clutch fork and nothing else,we know this cos there was a date stamp on the clutch plate.

when we replaced the clutch ourselves all the parts came to just a tad over £100
 
I am not sure. All I know is that driving back from Conwall to london up a hill it broke (foot down and no power, just revving).
garage did the work, charged £400 ish??? Saying new clutch?

As I mentioned, I do not really know anything about fixing cars apart from oil change, clutch master cylinder change, that sort of thing.

I will try and find the receipt for the work to see what was bought. I do know that land rovers have clutches like a tank and should last for years and years.

I am asking some questions so I have ammo for when I go back to the garage for a chat:mad:
 
So I have checked the receipts and I played for a full clutch kit!!!
£127 and the over £200 labour!
Can anyone offer any advise before I go back to the garage
 
have a look at the drain hole under the bell housing to see if there's any oil dripping out first in case thats the problem before you go steaming into the garage
 
Firstly... even though you are not a mechanic I can not stress enough how useful it would be for you to do this job yourself, possibly with a mate to help.

I know it seems like a nightmare scenario... but where a mechanic would take maybe four hours or so to change a clutch... you'll pick up tons of useful info even if it takes a whole weekend.

Where abouts are you? You profile says london but thats a big place.

The comments from the others are all good... there's a seal where the input shaft heads into the engine... could be giving problems, but you'll know if there is oil contamination as soon as you stick your finger in the wading plug hole!

'course I am no mechanic either...but playing with them is a lot of fun!
 
My sachs quattro clutch was dead in 7000miles as my driving style and the fact audi couldnt be arsed to change a 10quid seal!!:mad::mad:

so need new clutch poss DMF:mad::mad::mad::mad:
 
Thanks for the advise everyone. I will check to see if oil is leaking from the drain hole etc etc.
I actually live pretty central Ryder, so pulling the car apart on the street is not an option.
From all your posts it sounds like another expensive repair!!!!

Can anyone recommend a good honest mechanic west london way. every couple of months I seem to be giving this garage 100's of pounds?

At last I have the problem sorted.
It was actually the clutch that needed adjustment.
I changed the master a couple of months ago and obviously did a bad job.
