Just as the title says my windows arn`t working! its a 96 300tdi, ive serched the forum and looked at the ecu fix and did that but when i plug it back in it burns thru the little circuit strips, hence the problem is elsewhere, anybody got any ideas where to start looking next? i cant check for live feeds elsewhere as it keeps blowing! also i have 2 fused wires coming from my battery going into a small box bolted to the inner wing, is this part of the window system? many thanks in advance

I just did the ECU fix, as the n/s rear window started playing up when it felt like it, then both the front windows, but because it was intermittent, I don't know if it was a proper fix or not, but they work fine at the moment...........the o/s rear has never worked since I bought it, and still don't work after the ECU fix...........so it maybe that the motor is shagged, but I won't know til I strip it out and investigate............Did yours work fine before, or have they recently started playing up?........If they have never worked, it could be the motors, regulator etc...........I even found a piece of timber jamming up the window in place in my old motor.

No the windows have never worked scince ive had the car, that was the first thing i did check the regulators/motors etc and they look like new ones (think the previous owner had same prob and shelled out for new ones) the switches are fine as ive swapped them over for the fronts (in the centre console as they still work) the wiring had been tampered with under the console witch i think was the cause of my fire! but ive scince soldered in a new part loom cutting out all the bodge jobs from previous owners! im stuck as to where to look next!.... grrrrrrr!!

Given the fire mate, I would guess that you are right, and the wiring is the root of the problem. Your ECU could still be shagged, even if you've had a go at fixing it.........there are second hand ones on the bay for £15-20..........or if you got a mate with another disco, try doing an ECU swap first to rule that out.

yeh seen second hand ones on ebay just wanted to see if i could root out the prob if it was anything other than the ecu, guess ill have to bite the bullet and buy 1 and see! ill update when i get a new 1 thanks for the advice lads

looking at motors is no check you need to test them with a live fused current to them preferably done seperately to car system with spare battery etc

could that cause the ecu prob though? as it just goes as soon as i turn the ignition on, i dont have to try the windows or anything:confused: will do that as soon as the weather gets a bit dryer around here, just took the motors as being good as they look spot on but like you say you never know.... after all it is a landrover:D just thought id try the fix while ive been off work, now its got me puzzled, and being a male i cant let it beat me!!!!

if ecu goes without operating switches ,either ecu is buggered or theres a short between it and switches ,dont try anybody elses ,youd need to test wiring between switches and ecu including swtiches
