hello all,

Ive nearly finished my resto (3.9 G Reg) and have finally got all the Aircon ancillaries working (i think). 2 relays were not working initially but all sorted now. My question is that when i put the switch to the cold air symbol (1 before snowflake symbol) the condenser fans come on! Is this normal? The Aircon fans (in the cab) don't come on until i select the Aircon snowflake symbol but the air isn't very cold so i think all is working apart from getting a re-gas.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Rich

I don't know your car, but on some cars the aircon fans operate as soon as aircon is selected, it was like that on my previous car.

Hi Datatek its a 1990 Vogue 3.9. I thought aircon was selected when you moved the selector switch to the snow flake symbol not the cold air outside symbol (the one before) or is this also aircon?

Thanks

As I said, I don't know your model of car. I think the workshop manual RAVE covers your car, a link can be found in the technical archive. That will give you the wiring and function of the aircon.

My early 3.5 RR didn’t have a/c, but my 3.9 disco maybe similar operation, although it’s a press switch with the snow flake symbol, this switch operates as the a/c master switch, so press this switch and it illuminates but nothing else and only after selecting the dash fan speed does both the external fans roar into life, all that left is to move the dash temp controls the adjust the air temperature from the vents into the cabin being an air blending heater system.

I think 10 degrees at the vent in an ambient of 42 is about the best you could ever hope for.

My 3.9 had air-con and the fans came on before the snowflake symbol..

Personally RRC air-con is crap, especially an R12 system that has been converted to 134a..

Thank you for all your help / replies. All crystal clear now, just wanted to make sure all was working (as best it could for a RR).

Rich

Yes your system is working...
You have two sets of fans..
One for g heat inside the heater assembly
And the condenser fans are the blowers for the air conditioning....
I’m sure you have figured this out by now....
I just wanted to add my 2 cents ...,
