Hi guys - new here, but desperately require some advice.I run a wildlife rescue Charity which owns a Discovery 3, 54 plate, which we've had for over a year now.About four months ago, the brakes went, and it required new brake pads all the way around and new brake disks at the front. I took it to a Land Rover dealership and the repairs were carried out at a cost of nearly £500.The MOT was carried out less than two months ago in January, and required alot of work to pass. This included new bushes and anti roll bars, and a couple of other things. The cost of this work was just short of £1,000.Since the brake repairs which were done a few months ago, the vehicle has travelled 14,000 miles, mainly on motorway and town driving, and occasional off road useage. Just before the weekend, the brakes started to make a grinding noise as they did before I had them repaired, and the front drivers side disk is badly scored.I took it into the dealership, who've come back to me and said I require once again new brake pads all the way around and disks at the front. And to my absolute shock, new bushes and anti roll bars - the latter were only re-fitted brand new two months ago! The cost - in excess of £1,500 for all this work to be repaired.I'm not up on mechanical issues at all, but I get a very bad feeling that this is not right. I explained the work had only been carried out recently, and the receptionist didn't know it had required such work to pass the MOT, and said he would phone back. This was yesterday afternoon and i'm still waiting for a return call.Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

They all sound like mot issues.I suspect the work does need doing. However, do you not get some sort of warentie with the work? Also you say the d3 is used of road?Do you use the HDC cos that chews brakes.Third point, i would NEVER take a 6 year old car to a main stealers, find a indipendant locally

Thanks for the reply. My point is, the work done for the MOT was only carried out less than two months ago, so i'm finding it hard to understand why it needs re-doing again. I'm guessing it would be my word against theirs for the brakes, and they could argue I have worn them down in this time, which I guess isn't impossible. Speaking to Land Rover HQ, all parts such as those which were used for the MOT repair work have a warranty of 12 months. The only reason I take it to the dealership is because I have a select warranty which has been renewed year on year since new ( a cost of £1,000 each year too!).

Why is your word against theres? If they say the brakes need doing they probbaly need doing.Have you looked at them?using em offroad will wear em very quick all that mud n gravel is very abrasive. And again the hdc eats disks n pads, better off using injun breaking like a good driver.Cant they replace the arb n bushes under warrentie then?also youve paid for the warrentie so there shouldnt be a prblem

Hi YS, I can't understand a couple of things:

1. If you have a Select warranty which costs you £1000pa what does that cover? If it doesn't cover consumables (as I suspect), such as brake discs etc, what does it cover, as it is a lot of money for very little payback. Also the negative thing about these warranties is that you are locked into the most expensive way of servicing and repairs ie the Land Rover dealer - in other words you could argue that you are paying twice.

Just by way of an example, here are some parts prices to give you an idea about brake parts:
- Brakes

And here are prices for general service items:
- Service_Items

I reckon you need to find a competent person locally, and drop the £1000pa warranty.

2. Surely any work you had done with genuine LR parts must have a 12 month warranty?

I would say you are being taken to the cleaners, get the repairs done under warranty and then leave the LR dealer asap.

Good luck

Dave

**** the bed, £1000 warranty at that rate best keep the cash yourself

Sounds like typical main dealer tactics to me. They either charged for the work but hadn't actually done it, or they're trying to charge you for work that doesn't need doing. Ditch the useless warranty, ditch the main dealer, and find an independant garage to do your repairs etc in the future. Look for somewhere that local landy owners recommend.

The title of your thread says it all !!. ( you know you are being ).

Take the advise thats been given above.

Main dealers, ( esp. Land Rover ), are useless, low, inept stealing arse'clarts.

The reoccuring fault,s on your D3 sound ridiculous given your mileage and use. These motors are very robust and shuold not need parts throwing at them like that.

My mate bought a 3 year old HSE petrol rangerover ( 03 ), that had had £ 27,000 worth of work done on it since it was new. ( som warranty, som paid for ). The former owner belived his main dealer was best placed to " look after " his car.

I know mine,s a D2, but its constantly up to its balls in muck !, and is used off road alot. I havnt changed the pads or disks in 20,000 miles.

Del.
